The calendar contains the Northampton & District Organists' Association's annual list of events.
 
    
Saturday 2nd February  2019   CD Afternoon at 2.00pm.

Venue: 2, Frank Large Walk, St. Crispin’s, Northampton NN5 4UP

Members are invited to bring along their favourite recordings on LP or CD.  This year a large screen television and surround system will be used so members may also bring their choices on Blu-ray disc, or DVD. Maximum length 10 minutes.

The afternoon will also include an Organ Quiz for which there will be a DVD prize.

Afternoon tea will be included.

   
Thursday 21st March 2019 Visit to Coventry Cathedral

A visit to Coventry Cathedral as guests of  Rachel Mohan, the newly appointed Assistant Director of Music. The visit may include:

i)                    9.50am Train travel from Northampton Station;

ii)                  11,00am Visit to Herbert Art Gallery and Museum which contains photos and other items relating to the WW2 destruction of the old Cathedral, and construction of the new Cathedral, including Graham Sutherland paintings/samples for the tapestry ;

iii)                12.00pm Pre-booked lunch in the vicinity of the Cathedral;

iv)                1.00pm to 3.00pm demonstration of the Harrison & Harrison organ and chance to play;

v)                  3.15 – 4.15pm Guided tour of Cathedral. Cost £8.00 per person;

vi)                 5.15pm Attendance at Choral Evensong.

   

   
Saturday 11th May 2019   The Genius of Cavaille-Coll at 3pm

Venue: 2, Frank Large Walk, St. Crispin’s, Northampton NN5 4UP

An Edited Screening of Fugue State Films box set on surround sound equipment and large screen television. 3 DVD’s  and 2 CD’s

DVD 1 – Full narrative documentary film about Aristide Cavaille-Coll his life and work presented by Gerard Brooks and others.

DVD 2 – A short film from each organ presented by individual organists, and  major pieces of repertoire on each organ in full surround sound.

DVD 3 – showcases modern compositions and improvisations on Cavaille-Coll organs.

2 CD’s – performances on 15 Cavaille-Coll organs in chronological order of construction.

   
One Saturday in June 2019 Visit to Llandaff Cathedral (to be confirmed)

The visit might include:

i)                    A demonstration of the Nicholson organ and the chance to play;

ii)                  a guided tour of the Cathedral;

iii)                a visit to another Cardiff church, e.g. the Catholic Cathedral;

iv)                pre-booked lunch;

v)                  attendance at Evensong if sufficient numbers attend;

vi)                subsidised coach.

 

Saturday 6th July 2019

Members' Recital at 3.00pm.

Venue: Castle Hill United Reformed Church, Doddridge Street, Northampton, NN1 2RN.

Recital by members of the Association.

This year the performances may include the theme of solo instruments with organ e.g. clarinet, violin and trumpet. Members and friends of all abilities are encouraged to perform. Practice time will be allocated during the morning.

Donations following the recital will go towards the David Morgan Education Fund.

   
Monday 26th August 2019

 

Bank Holiday Organ Crawl in the west Northants/Buckinghamshire area.

This year we propose to visit:

St. Lawrence’s Church Towcester;

Lunch at 185 Watling St, Pub & Kitchen, Towcester;

Stowe School;

Buckingham Parish Church.

Saturday 28th September 2019 Association Dinner with guest speaker at 7.00pm

We will be holding an Association dinner to include partners, at Overstone Park Clubhouse, Billing Lane, Northampton NN6 0AF. The after-dinner speaker will be Lt. Col. Derek Kimberley (retired), former Director of Music Grenadier Guards (Household Division). Members and friends at RSCM will also be invited.

   
Saturday 19th October 2019

Talk on Organs of Poland and former British Colonies at 3.00pm

Venue: 2, Frank Large Walk, St. Crispin’s, Northampton NN5 4UP

Alan Cufaude will talk about organs of Poland with audio and visual aids.

John Wilson kindly offered to talk about his experiences of organs in places he has worked as a Commonwealth lawyer.
